25 Most Valuable 2020 Bowman Chrome Baseball Cards

Most Valuable 2020 Bowman Chrome Baseball Cards

When you look over the checklist of 2020 Bowman Chrome baseball cards, you'll immediately notice something:

there are several fantastic cards of young guys with plenty of promise to try and collect...

Wander Franco, Bobby Witt Jr., Julio Rodriguez, Bo Bichette, Luis Robert...the list goes on and on.

If all goes well, many of these guys will likely have standout careers and time will tell how many end up in Cooperstown.

The photography and overall design are top-notch, giving the cards a huge boost in eye appeal.

There is just so much to like about 2020 Bowman Chrome Baseball and it's no surprise that many collectors have their eyes on them.

And in this guide, we'll look at the 25 most valuable.

Let's jump right in!

Before I get started, I just want to clarify some of the criteria I used in creating this list.

Given all of the variations, parallels, and autograph cards included in this release, developing a definitive "most valuable" list can be quite difficult at this time.

So, to build this list, I only focused on the top 15 base cards and top 10 prospect cards for now.

And I attempted to estimate their current values when graded in PSA 10 condition so their "raw" or ungraded values may be wildly different.

Now that we got that out of the way let's get started...

2020 Bowman Chrome #25 Yordan Alvarez Rookie Card

Estimated PSA 10 Gem Mint Value: $35

Yordan Alvarez knew the 2020 season would be short, but unfortunately for him, his season lasted a mere two games before a partial tear of the patella tendon in his right knee knocked him out.

He did, however, make the most of his brief 2020 appearance, belting a three-run home run in his first at-bat of the season.

Bursting onto the scene in 2019 to win AL Rookie of Year honors, Alvarez ended that season with an OPS+ of 172 (league average is considered 100) with 27 home runs in only 87 games.

Already an essential part of the Astros' lineup, Alvarez's presence in the middle of the order offers protection for a bevy of Houston's other big boppers, including Alex Bregman, Yuli Gurriel, Kyle Tucker and Jose Altuve.

His return was more than welcome in 2021, and he certainly delivered with 33 home runs, 104 RBI, and 92 runs scored to help the Astros into the playoffs.

2020 Bowman Chrome #1 Mike Trout

Estimated PSA 10 Gem Mint Value: $30

Mike Trout has been so historically great during his career that sometimes he’s a victim of his own success.

Only a player of his caliber would consider his 2020 season, in which he slashed .281/.390/.603 and finished fifth in AL MVP voting, a “down” year.

Sure, Trout ended his streak of eight consecutive All-Star Game appearances in 2020, which was disappointing.

But in a COVID-shortened season where seemingly anything could happen, and anyone could get hot, Trout once again proved himself among the game’s greats.

He belted his 300th career home run in front of no fans in a game against the Houston Astros on September 5 and capped his season by winning his eighth Silver Slugger Award.

Trout wrapped it all up by being named to the All-MLB First Team for the second time in the award’s two-year existence.

When all is said and done, it will be interesting to see if Trout will join Yankees’ Mariano Rivera as the only unanimously elected members of the MLB Hall of Fame.

2020 Bowman Chrome #50 Bo Bichette Rookie Card

Estimated PSA 10 Gem Mint Value: $30

After bursting onto the scene as a rookie in 2019, expectations were through the roof for Bo Bichette heading into 2020.

He began his sophomore season with a scorching start, hitting safely in 13 of the Blue Jays’ first 14 games (including a 5-for-5 game where he belted a home run, scored three times, and stole two bases).

Unfortunately, Bichette would soon land on the Injured List with a right knee sprain that sidelined him for almost a month.

Once back in the lineup and fully healed, Bichette’s bat never really materialized for Toronto in their final 15 games of the 2020 season.

He hit just .242 with 10 RBIs and zero stolen bases and had an outing to forget in the AL Wild Card Game vs. the Tampa Bay Rays, where he went 0-6 and committed two errors.

Despite the injury and mixed return, Bichette looks primed to be one of the game’s premier starting shortstops for years to come.

2020 Bowman Chrome #50 Bo Bichette Rookie Card

2020 Bowman Chrome #58 Shohei Ohtani

Estimated PSA 10 Gem Mint Value: $30

Season-ending surgery brought a disappointing finish to Shohei Ohtani's sophomore campaign in 2019.

Unfortunately, his 2020 season was even more disappointing and left the two-way phenom feeling helpless as he just wasn't the same on the mound or at the plate.

Over 44 games and 153 at-bats, Ohtani slashed a mere .190/.291/.366, far below his career averages.

Though his batting average was less than impressive all season, he still managed to have decent power up until about mid-August before it all fell apart.

If things weren't bad enough at the plate, Ohtani was even worse on the mound.

In his first start on July 26 at the Oakland Athletics, Ohtani allowed three hits, issued three walks, and gave up five earned runs without recording an out before being pulled, leaving him with an infinite ERA at that point.

During his only other start that season, on August 2 against the Houston Astros at home, he pitched 1.2 innings, walking five and allowing two earned runs to bring his ERA to 37.80, where it would remain the rest of the year.

Given how bad his 2020 season was, it made his historic 2021 MVP campaign even more incredible as he turned things around drastically on both sides of the ball.

2020 Bowman Chrome #82 Fernando Tatis Jr.

Estimated PSA 10 Gem Mint Value: $30

Has there ever been a player more hyped than what we’ve seen with Fernando Tatis Jr.?

Maybe Ken Griffey Jr.?

Maybe Mike Trout?

But Tatis Jr. still has a long way to go before being ranked with names like theirs.

Entering 2020 off the heels of belting 22 home runs in 84 games during his rookie year, Tatis Jr. took all that hype and ran with it, winning NL Player of the Month in August by slashing .313/.395/.660 with a whopping 13 home runs.

Swag is also a factor of Tatis Jr.’s game, and no other moment of 2020 exemplifies that than the grand slam he hit off the Texas Rangers.

For context, the Padres were already up huge on the Rangers when Tatis Jr. deposited a 3-0 pitch into the seats for a Grand Slam.

Many baseball purists called foul, including Padres manager Jayce Tingler, but that’s all part of Tatis Jr.’s game, as we’ve seen throughout his short career.

There’s no telling where Tatis Jr. can take the sport of baseball, but it’s a pretty sure bet that he’ll take it higher than ever before.

2020 Bowman Chrome #8 Luis Robert Rookie Card

Estimated PSA 10 Gem Mint Value: $25

The COVID-shortened 2020 season did no favors to Minor Leaguers still needing development.

At the onset, White Sox centerfielder Luis Robert looked all the makings of a cornerstone piece for the next decade in Chicago (and let’s be real, he probably still is).

In the first month, Robert absolutely crushed the baseball to a tune of .298/.348/.612 with ten home runs.

He did have struggles chasing bad pitches, racking up a 30.8% strikeout rate in only 133 plate appearances, but when he was consistently belting balls out of the park at 115-plus mph, the warts were easy to overlook.

Then came September, and his production completely fell off the table.

Hitting a mere .086/.198.129 with a single home run, Robert’s month-long slump had many wondering if he needed more seasoning in the Minors.

While the numbers don’t lie, both good and bad, Robert is only in his early 20s with plenty of time to right the ship as the White Sox begin their quest to AL Central dominance once again.

2020 Bowman Chrome #8 Luis Robert Rookie Card

2020 Bowman Chrome #54 Juan Soto

Estimated PSA 10 Gem Mint Value: $25

A key part of the 2019 Washington Nationals team that brought home World Series glory to D.C., Juan Soto kept his foot on the gas in 2020 and continued his ascension to becoming one of the best of his era.

In addition to winning the NL batting title with a blistering .351 batting average, Soto led the Majors in OPB (.490), slugging percentage (.695), OPS (1.185) and OPS+ (217).

At 21 years old, Soto became the youngest player in NL history to win a batting title, snapping the record that Pete Reiser had held since his 1941 season with the Brooklyn Dodgers when he was just 22 years old.

And not since Barry Bonds in 2004 had any posted an OBP, slugging percentage, or OPS as high as Soto did in 2020.

Sure, it may have been a shortened season due to COVID, and some may argue that Soto may not have been able to keep up that kind of a torrid pace over a standard full season.

But then again, maybe he could have.

It doesn't matter, history is history and Soto's 2020 campaign was one of the most outstanding single-season performances of any hitter in quite some time.

2020 Bowman Chrome #54 Juan Soto Baseball Card

2020 Bowman Chrome #78 Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

Estimated PSA 10 Gem Mint Value: $25

On April 26, 2019, Guerrero made his long-anticipated MLB debut during a 4-2 victory at home against the Oakland Athletics and went 1-4 with a double.

From there, he struggled heavily at the plate as his average sunk to as low as .146 until around mid-May, before he got things back under control.

By season's end, the young superstar had posted a .272 batting average to go along with 15 home runs, 69 RBI and 52 runs scored over 123 games, a performance good enough to earn him a sixth-place finish in the AL Rookie of the Year vote.

During the Covid-shortened 2020 campaign, Guerrero played in all sixty of the Blue Jays' games, slashing .262/.329/.462 with nine home runs and 33 RBI to help the team to a third-place finish in the AL East.

It may not have been the kind of year he would've liked, but at just 21 years old, Guerrero continued to show steady signs of development.

And then, it all started to click for him in 2021.

Guerrero exploded to lead MLB in runs (123), home runs (48) and total bases (363) while also leading the AL in OBP (.401), slugging percentage (.601) and OPS (1.002).

2020 Bowman Chrome #78 Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Baseball Card

2020 Bowman Chrome #13 Aaron Judge

Estimated PSA 10 Gem Mint Value: $20

In 2017, the baseball world witnessed one of the finest rookie seasons in history when Aaron Judge snapped Mark McGwire's rookie record of 49 home runs when he belted a jaw-dropping 52 home runs in 542 at-bats.

McGwire's record had stood for thirty years, but amazingly, Pete Alonso of the New York Mets would break Judge's record just two years later when he smashed 53 home runs during his 2019 rookie campaign.

Unfortunately, like any hitter who was around for the COVID-shortened 2020 season, Judge's career numbers fell off pace when he hit just nine home runs that year.

And he hit those nine home runs in just 28 games since a nagging calf strain forced him to miss significant time in August and September.

Perhaps the most exciting stretch of the 2020 season for Judge occurred during a two-game and three-game series against the division-rival Baltimore Orioles and Boston Red Sox, respectively, from July 29 to August 2.

Over that five-game span, Judge smashed at least one home run, making it the Yankees' longest streak for home runs hit in consecutive games since Alex Rodriguez belted seven home runs across five games in 2007.

2020 Bowman Chrome #13 Aaron Judge Baseball Card

2020 Bowman Chrome #28 Ronald Acuña Jr.

Estimated PSA 10 Gem Mint Value: $20

Since winning the 2018 NL Rookie of the Year award, Ronald Acuña has remained one of the top players in Major League Baseball.

Acuña backed up his debut season with an incredible 2019 campaign that saw him finish fifth in the NL MVP vote while capturing his first Silver Slugger and All-Star selections.

In 46 games during the 2020 season, Acuña slashed .250/.406/.581 with 29 RBI and 14 home runs.

And the last of those 14 home runs happened to be the longest hit by any player in the Majors that season.

In the bottom of the first of a home game against the Boston Red Sox on September 25, Acuña cracked a solo shot off of Chris Mazza 495 feet into left-center.

Not only was it the longest home run in MLB that year, it also set a record for the longest home run hit in Atlanta's Truist Park.

For his efforts on the season, Acuña picked up his second consecutive Silver Slugger and earned a twelfth-place finish in the NL MVP vote.

2020 Bowman Chrome #28 Ronald Acuna Jr. Baseball Card

2020 Bowman Chrome #31 Mookie Betts

Estimated PSA 10 Gem Mint Value: $20

Hindsight is always 20/20, but it's easy to call our shot now: the Dodgers won the trade.

Shipped over by the Red Sox at the start of 2020 with David Price, Mookie Betts immediately impacted his new team in 2020, finishing second in NL MVP voting while winning his fifth Gold Glove and fourth Silver Slugger.

Personal stats and accolades are great, but Betts would've been happy to trade that all for a World Series ring, something he and his LA teammates earned in 2020.

Whether he was impacting the game with his bat (tied for the team lead with 16 home runs), his arm (led all National League outfielder with +11 defensive runs saved), or his legs (Dodgers team-high 10 stolen bases), Betts took those sky-high expectations placed on him and shattered through them.

Signed through 2023, Betts is well on his way to cementing himself as one of the game's best of his era.

2020 Bowman Chrome #31 Mookie Betts Baseball Card

2020 Bowman Chrome #35 Bryce Harper

Estimated PSA 10 Gem Mint Value: $20

In his second year with the Philadelphia Phillies, Bryce Harper played in all but two of the team's sixty games, showing nice pop with a .542 slugging percentage and an excellent knack for getting on base with a .420 OBP.

Thanks largely to leading MLB in walks (49), his .420 OBP would be good enough for fourth-best in baseball.

It was yet another sign that Harper continued to show increased discipline at the plate, solidifying himself as one of the best hitters in baseball throughout his first nine years in the Majors.

Still, under first-year manager Joe Girardi, Harper and the Phillies couldn't quite put it all together and finished third in the NL East with a 28-32 record.

The following season, Harper showed the Phillies and their fans exactly why the team had sacrificed so much to bring him to Philadelphia.

After batting .309 with 35 home runs, 84 RBI, and 101 runs scored to go along with MLB-bests in doubles (42), slugging percentage (.615), OPS (1.044) and OPS+ (180), the 28-year-old superstar took home his second MVP and Silver Slugger awards.

2020 Bowman Chrome #11 Randy Arozarena Rookie Card

Estimated PSA 10 Gem Mint Value: $15

A native of Cuba, Randy Arozarena played professionally in both Cuba and Mexico from 2013 to 2016 before signing with the St. Louis Cardinals in July 2016 as an international free agent.

After a successful stint in the Minors, the Cardinals later called up Arozarena on August 14, 2019, for a road game against the Kansas City Royals, in which he went 2-4 with one RBI.

Over 19 games with the Cardinals in 2019, Arozarena showed promise at the plate, slashing .300/.391/.500 with one home run, two RBI and four runs scored.

During the offseason, the Cardinals traded Arozarena to the Tampa Bay Rays as part of a multi-player deal.

He'd play in just 23 games for the Rays in 2020 but was quite productive, batting .281 with seven home runs and 11 RBIs.

However, the 25-year-old outfielder became a breakout star during the 2020 postseason, setting the MLB record for most home runs during a single postseason with a jaw-dropping ten dingers.

Arozarena also set single-postseason records for both hits (29) and total bases (64).

That postseason success spilled over into the 2021 season, where Arozarena would capture AL Rookie of the Year Honors after batting .274 with 20 home runs, 69 RBI and 94 runs scored.

2020 Bowman Chrome #11 Randy Arozarena Rookie Card

2020 Bowman Chrome #83 Gavin Lux Rookie Card

Estimated PSA 10 Gem Mint Value: $15

With the 20th pick of the 2016 MLB Draft, the Los Angeles Dodgers welcomed him into their organization.

By June 27, 2019, Lux had made his way up to the AAA Oklahoma City Dodgers, where he slashed a blistering .392/.478/.719 with 13 home runs, 39 RBI and 54 runs scored in 49 games.

Just over two months later, the Dodgers called up Lux on September 2, 2019 to be their starting second baseman during a home game against the division-rival Colorado Rockies.

Lux picked up right where he had left off in Oklahoma City with his hot bat, going 2-5 with a double and three runs scored in the Dodgers' 16-9 blowout victory.

He cooled off from there, finishing the 2019 season with a .240/.305/.400 slash line but did become the youngest Dodger in franchise history to hit a home run during Game 1 of the NLDS.

Lux's struggles continued into the 2020 season as he faced timing issues at the plate, forcing him to spend most of the year in the Minors before being called up again for 19 games at the end of the season.

With plenty of talent and promise, time will tell if Lux can evolve into the star the Dodgers once expected.

2020 Bowman Chrome #83 Gavin Lux Rookie Card

2020 Bowman Chrome #96 Dustin May Rookie Card

Estimated PSA 10 Gem Mint Value: $15

If you want to see filthy movement on any number of pitches, look no further than Los Angeles Dodgers starter Dustin May.

The right-hander was no stranger to the highlight reel, utilizing a two-seam fastball that breaks hard into righthand hitters and a ridiculous 99-plus mph sinker.

Though the stuff is clearly there for May, his 2020 season was a mixed bag of short starts and relief stints.

He started the Dodgers’ Opening Day game at 22 years old, making him the youngest Opening Day starter in Dodgers’ history since Fernando Valenzuela in 1983.

But, unfortunately, he never made it out of the 6th inning in any of his ten starts, averaging an even 5.0 innings per start.

May entered a long relief role later in the season, making way for his role in the bullpen during Los Angeles’ World Series run.

And while he did record five consecutive outs in relief during Game 5 of the World Series, his playoff ERA of 4.22 is undoubtedly something the young right-hander will look to improve upon for this potent Dodgers team.

2020 Bowman Chrome Prospects

As you can imagine, several 2020 Bowman Chrome Prospects cards are worth decent money in top condition.

Cards #1-149 are found in packs of regular 2020 Bowman Baseball while the remaining #150-250 are found in 2020 Bowman Chrome Baseball.

Many of them are worth more than the base set cards mentioned above, which isn't unusual for prospect cards given that these are the first appearances of many young players with plenty of promise.

With big names like Bobby Witt Jr., Wander Franco, Julio Rodriguez, Jasson Dominguez and others included in the 2020 Bowman Chrome Prospects checklist, there are plenty of great cards to choose from.

For now, I've limited this list to the top ten most valuable.

Time will tell how well these cards hold up in value as their careers continue to develop.

2020 Bowman Chrome Baseball Cards In Review

I really enjoy this set, there's no other way to put it.

The design is fantastic and there is just so much current and future talent to be found inside.

Parallels and autographs only make things that much sweeter if you're lucky enough to pull one.
